Gray Wolves Need Help NOW!

The removal of the gray wolf from the Endangered Species List is moving fast. This is a mostly seperate issue from the Alsakan wovles. The problem is that Wyoming and Idaho intend to immediately kill most of the wolves as soon as they are removed from the list. This Natural Resources Defence Council's recent wolf news letter gives the numbers of wolves each state plans to massacre. What's the point of removing these animals from the list if they are going to be back on shortly after they're taken off it?

Also, remember that our Vice President Cheney is from Wyoming. I think no matter how many people protest, the plan will go through anyway.

NRDC is also planning to run a national commmercial to educate people on this issue and help stop these state's horrendous plans from becoming a reality. I do not care to ask for donations, but I feel this commercial will have widespread effect and is worth it. And the timing is urgent. Click the NRDC link below and choose the wolf's picture labeled "Call Off the Guns".

The best thing anyone can do now (and I mean NOW)is send letters and sign petitions-and it is free. Send them to the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Ed Bangs is the top wolf guy with them. This man has a hard job but we need to let him know what we think before it is too late and the bodies of dead wolves are piled up all over again.

It is my understanding that the US federal government in concert with local States wants to undertake this “project” to enhance elk hunting, as they believe incorrectly that wolves are responsible for a slight decrease in elk numbers (accountable by none wolf reasons).

1,300 wolves vs. 300,000 elk…Endangered wolves are going to be killed to help foster the further development of hunting of elks?

Who’s the vicious predator here?

Hi Heavenabove;

I have a simulblog (called Graffiti) on Life on the Blade right now, if you are willing I would love to get a comment on the article form you, I think your perspective would be interesting, as usual.

Perhaps in the future this is the kind of thing you and I could do with Wildlife Alive and Creation on the Blade?

I often have the same thoughts you do about the whole wolf thing revolving around elk hunting.

And many of these "lower numbers" of elk have chronic wasting disease and brucellosis. The elk herds down here aren't exactly healthy. Good if there's a little natural competition to elk hunting now that wolves are back.

After sitting through (and speaking at)actual public meetings and diving into this wolf stuff for years, I just see no end in sight. Ranching and hunting interests are definitely the primary threat to wolves. The way they cry money and rights loss will let them prevail.

I will mention that Ed Bangs, the head wolf management guru, has a job I would never want. He has so much to sort out. The opposing sides are so strongly set in their beliefs that it makes his job so much more difficult. And he is a nice fellow.
